Chelsea star emerges on transfer radar of Bundesliga outfit

RC Leipzig interested in Andreas Christensen

According to German publication Bild (h/t Express), Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig are interested in signing Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.

The Dane has been in and out of the starting line-up and has notched up 14 appearances this season.

The 23-year-old has been competing with the likes of Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger for a place in the squad. However, he did start Chelsea’s last four games.

Leipzig are looking to sign him on loan for the rest of the season (Bild (h/t Express).

Christensen spent two impressive years on loan with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach. His performances earned him the Gladbach Player of the Year award in 2015-16.

An ever-present in the Die Fohlen backline, Christensen made 62 Bundesliga appearances then, chipping in with five goals and six assists. (h/t Whoscored)

He returned to Chelsea in 2017 and went on to make 33 appearances for the Blues that season. The defender, however, saw that tally drop to 25 in 2018-19 and has so far made just 13 this season.

The emergence of Fikayo Tomori has also limited the Danish international’s opportunities, with the youngster making 20 appearances so far.

In fact, Christensen is being viewed as a replacement Dayot Upamecano, who has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. (h/t Express)
