Olivier Giroud helped Chelsea lift the Europa League by scoring 11 goals in the competition last season.
The Frenchman joined from Arsenal and has done his bit for the side in a short span. However, the striker isn’t the first-choice under Frank Lampard, with Tammy Abraham getting the nod recently.
The English youngster is on a scoring spree and Giroud isn’t sure if this is his last season with the Blues.
The Frenchman was speaking on RMC Sport’s Breaking Foot and claimed a move to the MLS cannot be ruled out (h/t Metro):
“The MLS for my family, my children who speak English, it’s interesting. In a year? In two years? I do not know when. But of course after that I will be open to a final challenge.”
The Frenchman extended his contract recently as the Blues were hit by a transfer ban, and Giroud opened up about staying at the club:
“There were no discussions because the club had an option for another year and they took it because they were happy with what I brought to the club.
“It even went further than that, there is a genuine belief in me. Aside from that, it was not necessarily my desire to leave and I never really asked myself the question about a possible departure.”
The 32-year-old is a decent striker to have on the books and gives us a different option to Abraham.
Giroud will be needed when our Champions League campaign begins, and the Frenchman’s experience is important for the young team too.
It will be interesting to see if he leaves once this season is done, which is when we can start buying players again.
The Frenchman is a quality finisher, however, age could be catching up to him by the end of this campaign.
