Chelsea could lose experienced star after offering him one-year deal – player wants 3-year contract

Willian

Chelsea could lose out on one of their stars after offering him only a one-year deal, according to UOL (h/t Daily Star). The report claims that Willian is out of contract at the end of the season, and wants a three-year deal to extend his stay.

The 30-year-old hasn’t been in great form this season for the Blues. Willian has played 24 Premier League games this campaign but has just three goals and four assists to his name.

The report adds that Chelsea are offering him a one-year deal, which is in line with the club’s policy of providing short-term contracts to players over 30. Willian has been a regular under Maurizio Sarri, however, he hasn’t been consistently good this season.

The 30-year-old is one of the most hard-working players in the Premier League, but his output in the final third still needs some work.

The Blues have brought this policy up in recent years and it will be interesting to see how we deal with this problem. Losing Willian on a free at the end of the season would be a blow as he has the quality to win games on his day.

Chelsea don’t have many options to replace the Brazilian at the moment, however, we have signed Christian Pulisic, who will join in the summer.

The American hasn’t been great for Borussia Dortmund this season but could come good under Sarri with a proper pre-season under his belt.
