The Telegraph claims that Cesar Azpilicueta has agreed on a deal with Chelsea despite having 18 months left on his current deal.
If this does happen, then the Blues will have secured the future of N’Golo Kante, Marcos Alonso and now Cesar Azpilicueta in the space of two months, which is a statement in itself.
The captain’s current contract would end in 2020 but the new deal will keep him until 2022, as per the report. Chelsea are also avoiding a major problem by giving him a new contract now, as players above 30 are only provided with a one-year deal at the club.
The Spanish right-back also gets a pay rise from £120,000-a-week to £150,000-a-week. The 29-year-old has been one of our most consistent players since joining from Marseille in 2012 and has been our club captain, with Gary Cahill sidelined from the starting XI.
The 29-year-old has been an ever-present figure in our defence this season and has started all 14 of the Premier League games.
It is great that we have secured his future early, which is a testament to the player performing well under the new manager. Azpilicueta’s versatility is something which makes him an indispensable player at Stamford Bridge.

We need another right-back in the team who can step up when the Spaniard is injured and hopefully, we get someone better than Davide Zappacosta soon.
