Chelsea looking to sign out-of-favour Barcelona superstar

Denis Suarez

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri could move for Denis Suarez of Barcelona in the winter window, according to Marca (h/t Express).

The Spanish midfielder has played just one game this season for the Catalans. That came in the 1-0 win over Deportivo Leonesa in the Copa del Rey.

The report adds that the former Villarreal star has fallen out of favour under manager Ernesto Valverde and could be available on a cut-price deal.

Sarri was interested in Suarez during his Napoli days, as per the report, and might require midfield reinforcements next season as the future of Mateo Kovacic is uncertain.

The Croatian joined Chelsea on loan from Real Madrid and the midfielder has three more years on his current deal which has a release clause of £262million (h/t Express).

Real would ask for at least £50m for Kovacic, as per the report, and it also depends on who would take over from their former manager Julen Lopetegui.

The 24-year-old has experience of playing in the Premier League with him spending time at the Manchester City Academy.

Suarez did play for the Cityzens but his appearances came in the League Cup and FA Cup. The Spaniard could be a smart choice from Sarri should we not sign Kovacic permanently.

The Barcelona man has the experience of playing for a big side in Europe and bringing him to Chelsea, on the cheap, would make a lot of sense.
