Chelsea assistant manager Gianfranco Zola wasn’t happy with the performances of Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen in our Carabao Cup win over Derby County.

The pair started the game against Derby and we picked up a nervy 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge.

The Rams scored a couple of own goals and we needed a Cesc Fabregas winner in the first half to ensure passage into the next round.

Cahill was the culprit when the Rams scored their first goal while Christensen was subbed after the hour mark as well.

Zola claimed Cahill struggled since he was playing after a while, and criticised the defenders for not doing well with the ball.

The Italian was quoted by the Metro as saying:

“Gary played for the first time in a while. When we didn’t defend well, it wasn’t just the defenders.

“I thought Gary and Christensen could have done better with the ball in the first half.

“This is probably the complaint, but we will go through this and discuss this [with them].”

The Italian claimed that our passing wasn’t great in the game and we lost some of our control in the final 15 minutes.

Derby could have gotten a third goal but saw an effort come off the post late in the game. The pair of Christensen and Cahill didn’t really perform and well, most of our team were poor in the game. Hopefully, we will do better in the next game which is against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
