Eden Hazard jokes about scoring against Liverpool as another star didn’t want penalties

Eden Hazard of Chelsea scores against Liverpool

Eden Hazard scored a fantastic goal to beat Liverpool at Anfield in our Carabao Cup clash. The Belgian was brought on as a substitute and scored in the 85th minute to hand the Reds their first defeat of the season.

The winger has started the season brightly and joked about one Chelsea star not wanting to take penalties at the end of the 90 minutes.

The Blues were tied 1-1 with Liverpool after goals from Daniel Sturridge and Emerson Palmieri before the 27-year-old scored the screamer.

Hazard was asked about the goal by Sky Sports (h/t ESPN) and said:

“I spoke with N’Golo [Kante] on the bench & he told me he didn’t want to take a penalty [in a shootout], so the only solution was to score.”

The Belgian further spoke about the upcoming clash against the Reds and how this result was a boost for the team.

“This result will give us more confidence because we drew with West Ham four days ago. The game on Saturday [against Liverpool in the Premier League] is more important. We have got to try and beat Liverpool on Saturday.”

We are currently sitting two points behind the Reds but this goal was certainly fantastic. Hazard has a catalogue of brilliant goals during his time at Chelsea and we can keep watching this for hours but another big game is on the way.

The Belgian must produce more magic on the field and it would not come as a surprise if he turns out to be the match-winner on Saturday too.
