Sky Sports pundit claims Maurizio Sarri is capable of building a Premier League winning side – on one condition

Former Liverpool star Graeme Souness believes Maurizio Sarri would have to tweak his style of football to win trophies at Chelsea.

Sarri was famous for playing his brand of attacking football at Napoli but he didn’t pick up silverware with the Serie A side. And Souness claimed that he isn’t impressed with “Sarri-ball” either but instead, wants the club to sign another forward.

The pundit was quoted by the Daily Star as saying:

“I think he has to be cautious on occasion, more pragmatic on occasion.

“Well he isn’t going to win a big trophy then (if he doesn’t change).

“I’m not buying Sarri-ball, there’s nothing new about pressing high and playing one and two-touch football.

“Going back to when I played, that’s what we did. There’s nothing new about it.”

Souness added that Sarri has inherited a quality side from the previous manager, Antonio Conte, but added that we need quality in one area of the team.

“I think we saw against Arsenal last week they were a bit more vulnerable when Arsenal got after them.

“So I think for me they are still a centre-forward away from a team that can really challenge for this Premier League.”

Sarri has started his Chelsea career in fine form with three wins from three games. Despite all the shortcomings reported by Souness, we have done pretty well.

Chelsea are still a work in progress but we should get to see the best of Sarri’s style in the coming months. It will be an interesting ride with the Italian and we should reserve judgement until the midway mark of the season.
