“I came back to Chelsea to stay” – Blues star verbally commits to Sarri’s project at Stamford Bridge

David Luiz

David Luiz wants to stay at Chelsea and has even praised new manager Maurizio Sarri. Luiz played just 11 games for us in all competitions last season but the 31-year-old spoke to Sky Sports as he claimed that he had come to Chelsea to win trophies.

“I came back to Chelsea to stay.

“When I took my decision to come back here from Paris it was to win the Premier League and to do something again with Chelsea, so I am very happy here.”

Luiz rejoined the Blues from Paris Saint-Germain for £32m in 2016 and also added that the team is working hard to learn Sarri’s philosophy.

“I love Sarri’s philosophy. We play high, with a lot of possession in a technical way. He’s trying to help us every single day to learn quickly his philosophy.”

The Brazilian added that learning from Sarri might take some time but he also said that he had no doubt that we could see the philosophy come into play soon with the right attitude from the players.

Luiz is loved by a number of Chelsea fans and he did seem to have a bit of a fallout with former manager Antonio Conte. He might be a central defender but he can do a job in the midfield too. He could come in handy this season.

The 31-year-old could have been on his way out but under Sarri, he has started two games and seems set to stay at the Bridge for a long time.
