Blow for Chelsea as club vice president confirms deal for £25m World Cup star

Aleksandr Golovin

Chelsea look set to miss out on one of their transfer targets from the summer as Aleksandr Golovin is close to joining Monaco, as revealed by Ligue 1 club’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev. The Metro reports that we wanted to bring the young Russian to Stamford Bridge, and had a price-tag of just £25m.

However, Vasilyev was quoted by the Metro as saying that the two clubs have agreed on a move for Golovin and there was interest from the Blues and another European giant.

“Monaco and CSKA finally finally agreed on the transfer of Golovin. In addition to Chelsea, Golovin was also wanted by Juventus.

“At a meeting with one of the directors of the Turin club in May this year, I heard that Golovin’s move to them was a done deal.

“However, our main competitor was Chelsea.”

The vice-president did add that the contract would be a standard five-year one for the Russian and that he was not sure if Golovin would join them.

This will come as a huge blow to the Blues as we were linked with a move for Golovin since the start of the World Cup. The 22-year-old scored a goal and provided a couple of assists for the host nation but they were knocked out by eventual runners-up Croatia.

We have only signed a couple players this season, Jorginho and Rob Green. The transfer window ends on 9th August and it will take a bit of a miracle for us to get some more players in, given that our primary targets are heading elsewhere. Hopefully, we have a Plan B with almost all our signings, or this season could be a real struggle for the side.
