Chelsea in talks to sign £27m World Cup star but that could mean the end of £35m pursuit – report

Aleksandr Golovin

Chelsea are reportedly in talks to sign Aleksandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow but that could mean the end of a move for Jean Michael Seri of Nice, according to the Telegraph.

We have been linked with a move for both players in the summer window as we look to possibly start a new era under Maurizio Sarri but the report claims that we will not be moving for the Nice midfielder with £35m release clause should we sign Golovin.

Golovin is seen as a player that could do a job for us in midfield, similar to Luka Modric, and the club might have to part with £27million to sign the exciting Russian.

Sarri did try to sign Golovin during his time at Napoli and it seems like the Russian could be one of the fresh faces that could come into the side as we look to make a return to the Champions League.

Jean Michael Seri

The report also claims that while Juventus are also interested in the 22-year-old Russian, we are hoping to conclude a deal for the CSKA man after the World Cup ends.

While there is no doubt that Golovin can add some creativity to our side next season, bringing in someone like Seri could have been good business too.

The Nice midfielder could have worked wonders alongside N’Golo Kante and with Golovin possibly creating chances from the midfield, we could have been set for a good season.

There still is a lot of time for the transfer window to end and we still might be in for a surprise signing or two.
