Chelsea enter race to sign 27-year-old Italian as player enters final year of his current contract

Alessandro Florenzi

Chelsea have entered the race to sign AS Roma defender Alessandro Florenzi, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Sun).

The 27-year-old’s contract talks with the Serie A club have broken down, according to the report, and Roma are now looking to sell the Italian instead of losing him for free at the end of next season.

Two other clubs are also interested in the defender, with Italian champions Juventus and Inter Milan also looking to get him.

Even though we are unsure about our manager for next season, the Blues are looking at the defender. We have made an approach for the player and are waiting for Roma’s response.

We did sign another player from Roma last season as Antonio Conte caught hold of Emerson Palmieri and this could help us sign Florenzi ahead of the season.

Conte does look like the man who will leave the club in the summer and with Maurizio Sarri being linked with a move to the Blues, it might not be the worst decision to bring in a player that Sarri might know about.

Florenzi would be a decent player to have and would help us rotate the squad a bit. The 27-year-old can also play as a defensive midfielder but his best work comes when he starts as the right-back.

That role, as well as the left-back role, has been one of the most important positions for us in recent times and hopefully, Florenzi can do justice to the jersey and the position should he join us.
