Chelsea willing to let go of midfielder after just one season at Stamford Bridge – report

Danny Drinkwater

Chelsea are ready to let go of former Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater just one season after he signed for the Premier League side. The Daily Mail claims that the London club is willing to let go of the English midfielder, even on a loan deal.

Drinkwater has not been able to break into the first-team and only made five Premier League appearances for Antonio Conte. The 28-year-old also faced a lot of competition from the likes of N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas.

That competition is expected to increase a lot more next season as Jean Michael Seri has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and hence Chelsea are willing to cut their losses on the 28-year-old and move him on.

A sign that there will be incomings at the Blues

Drinkwater’s signing always raised questions from Chelsea fans as the Englishman didn’t seem to be the right kind of player after N’Golo Kante left Leicester.

Bringing him into the club a season after Kante joined us, we never got to see the best of the 28-year-old and it does make sense to let him leave now rather than keep him and waste his time and our resources.

What this would also mean is that we might bring in another central midfielder as we require four quality options for the two spots in the middle of the park.

It is also interesting to see that the player might be sold even though we do not know who the manager is, so there is a lot of work going on behind closed doors at the Stamford Bridge.

Hopefully, we can make a better signing than Drinkwater for the upcoming season and get back into the Champions League too.
