As per a report from The Metro, Maurizio Sarri has informed Chelsea that he wants Mauro Icardi as the club’s first signing this summer. The report goes on to state that Sarri is one of the prime targets to take on the role of our new manager.
Icardi, who has a release clause of £96m, appears to be a priority target for the potential Chelsea manager. The sensational striker enjoyed a brilliant season with Inter Milan and he is regarded as one of the best attackers in football right now. Over the course of the recently concluded season, Icardi managed to score 29 goals in 34 Serie A appearances and that is an impressive figure indeed.
It goes without saying that a player like him could massively improve our performances up front. Alvaro Morata has been nothing short of a disappointment and while Olivier Giroud has done well, we will need another quality striker before the new season commences.
On that front, a move for Icardi seems like a good idea. However, The Metro states that our interest in Icardi is solely dependent on whether or not Sarri joins as our manager. That is doubtful considering Chelsea’s unwillingness to pay Napoli £7million to sign him.
Although Icardi could prove to be the answer to many of our troubles, the possibility of the deal depends on a lot of factors. It remains to be seen if we are able to sign Sarri in the first place but if we do, we would not only get a promising manager but also a top-notch attacker.
