Conte’s Chelsea monitoring £80,000-per-week Manchester United star’s contract situation

Luke Shaw

According to a report published by The Mirror, Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Manchester United defender Luke Shaw. Mourinho appears to have mixed views on Shaw. The Red Devils boss has praised the player as being one of the best left-backs in the world while he has also blasted him for not having the work ethic that is required of a Manchester United player.

Though he struggled for first-team football and was linked with a move away from Old Trafford during the first-half of the season, Shaw’s fortunes at United have improved since the start of 2018 as he has so far gone on to play in 5 out of his side’s last 8 league games so far, despite having only made his first Premier League appearance of the season in December.

Despite interest from Chelsea, Shaw, who joined United in 2014 from Southampton, is looking to extend his stay at the red half of Manchester.

His current contract with the Red Devils is set to expire at the end of next season and he currently earns £80,000-per-week. The fact that his contract will expire at the end of the season has drawn interest from Chelsea and Arsenal, who could make a move during the summer if no deal is agreed upon by then.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal are expected to sign a new left-back during the summer. At 32 years of age Nacho Monreal is past his peak and will have just one year remaining on his current Gunners deal by the time the summer comes around, while Marcos Alonso has been tipped to leave Chelsea and return to the Spanish La Liga.

Should he receive a new contract, Shaw’s salary will increase to an amount around £120,000-a-week and £150,000-a-week.

Shaw, who will be hoping to be a part of the England 2018 world cup squad has certainly proven that he has the qualities required to succeed in the left-back position and United will be wise if they do offer him a new contract.
