Chelsea Transfer News
Celtic striker Moussa Dembele could join Chelsea in the summer, according to former Chelsea star Craig Burley. The France U-21 player has been linked heavily with a move away from Celtic and is on the radar of many top clubs in Europe. However, ex-Chelsea midfielder Burley believes that Moussa could end up at Chelsea.
The former midfielder told ESPN (h/t Metro),
“Scottish football is quite embarrassing at the moment in terms of the standard but he is head and shoulders [above the rest]. He’s a good player and is young. Chelsea, I’m hearing, are the favourites [to sign him]. Talking to one or two guys I know back in Scotland, they said he is pretty much nailed on to go to Chelsea and possibly for around £40million.”
Moussa Dembele has been top class for Celtic this term, scoring 27 goals in 41 appearances so far. He has also bagged 6 assists and has been vital for Celtic’s lead at the top of the table. They are runaway winners at this stage of the season and nothing can even virtually stop them from winning the league by the end of the season.
It would be hard for top clubs to not notice such a scintillating performance from a boy who is 20-years old. Many clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea have expressed interest in the hotshot striker and it appears from Craig’s words that Chelsea have probably seen off heavy competition from fellow premier clubs to seal a deal for the striker.
Would he fit in at Chelsea?
Chelsea have relied on Diego Costa’s brilliance this season and have turned to Michy Batshuayi in the Spaniard’s absence. With such dependency on a single player, Conte would be eager to change it next season as the club will be participating (almost certainly) in the Champions League next season. Depth in the squad will be essential for the Blues to compete in all competitions. Batshuayi has not grabbed his chances and hasn’t impressed his manager so far and so there is every chance that Dembele would be signed by Chelsea, to provide cover for Diego Costa.
Also with academy product Dominic Solanke’s contract negotiations hitting a deadlock, it might be worth it for Chelsea to try and sign someone like Moussa Dembele, who is young and extremely talented. Rodgers might try hard to keep hold of the youngster, but an offer from Conte’s Chelsea might prove too good for the striker to resist.
