Chelsea Receive Transfer Boost As Serie A Giants Ready To Sell £42m Star For Cut Price Deal

published :

Chelsea are all set to pounce as Inter Milan are looking to cash in on their key player, Marcelo Brozovic. The 24-year-old has been one of the leading targets for the club since Antonio Conte took charge of the hot seat.

This serves as a surprise to many as earlier this month Brozovic extended his stay at San Siro until 2021. However, the Italian outfit’s joy was short-lived as they need to be in line with the Financial Fair Play (FFP), therefore the former Dinamo Zagreb player will be put up for sale, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (via Daily Express)

It’s believed that his new contract includes a mammoth £42 million release clause yet Inter are willing to listen to offers around £20 to £25 million. A fee that will never trouble a club like Chelsea. Despite being monitored by other clubs within the Italian league, his clause can only be triggered by teams outside of the country so the route is pretty clear for The Blues.

Inter Milan are paying the price for their poor start to the season, sitting 8th in the league. Brozovic’s form has been a healing pill for the club. He has been influential, commanding the centre of the park by marrying both function and flair. Last weekend against Genoa, he showed there is more to his game than just winning back possession and clever passes as he scored in both halves to hand over a hard-earned 2-0 victory for his side. It was also their fourth consecutive league home win.

A similar story was noted at Stamford Bridge too in the last Premier League outing. Conte’s men were mounting up frustration against a stubborn West Brom defence till the 76th minute when Diego Costa netted his 12th goal of the campaign. They have won 9 matches on the trot and one could audaciously say that the league title is theirs to lose.

A point that many Chelsea fans will cite to capture his signature is the uncertainty of a number of midfielders. Cesc Fabregas has shown flashes of brilliance in the last two matches while Conte has asserted that the Spaniard is part of his plans. Yet if the plan remains as a part-time role, Fabregas might opt to leave for playing minutes and at the age of 29, he certainly has to. Oscar and John Obi Mikel are other players with futures up in the air. If the mentioned trio happens to leave, the Chelsea boss will only have Nemanja Matic and N’golo Kante at his disposal. The Croatian star is unlikely to unseat any of the current starters in midfield but surely serves as a great depth to the squad.

Drilling deeper into Brozovic’s CV, he has also equally impressed for his country – being in the fold since the Under-18 and has racked up 6 goals in 24 senior appearances, a respectable return for a central midfielder.
