john terry

Chelsea have made a brilliant start to the campaign and are currently unbeaten after four matches. Antonio Conte has brought back the solidity and fluidity that was missing from the Blues’ play last season. Hazard seems to back at his best after a superb performance in this year’s European Championship and Costa is currently leading the Golden Boot race with four goals in as many matches. The defence has firmly strengthened with the arrival of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso. Though Chelsea only managed a draw in their last match against Swansea, the performance was very good from the back to the front. However, one piece of bad news that came Chelsea’s way was the injury suffered by John Terry.

Chelsea captain Terry will be out for 10 days after straining ligaments in his foot, therefore he will miss the Friday night match against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. The defender was thought to be on his way out of the club before Conte came in and decided to offer the veteran a contract extension. It is widely believed that this might be Terry’s last season with his contract expiring at the end of the season. The former English international has been a very dedicated servant to the club. It is vital that Conte during the course of this season decides on a possible replacement for Terry.

Here are the 3 possible replacements that Conte can look towards.

Marquinhos

Marquinhos

Marquinhos moved to PSG in the summer of July 2013 after spending one frustrating season in Italy. Chelsea  made contact with the Paris club 2 years back about the availability fo the Brazilian international but nothing worked out. There were high hopes from the 22-year-old when he made the move to France, however, he has been unable to cement a starting birth till now. Chelsea have already brought Luiz from PSG, therefore stealing one more defender from the same club might be a bit difficult but it would prove to be a superb buy if it does happen.

Diego Godin

Diego Godin

Godin has been excellent at Atletico Madrid since moving to the Spanish capital in 2013. The 30-year-old has lots of experience of the top level and would be an ideal choice to replace Terry at the club. His defensive game would be perfect for the type of philosophy Conte is trying embed at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea were reported to be interested in the Spanish international previously and now with Terry on the move, it might be the perfect chance to make a concrete offer.

Michael Keane

Not a popular name on the list but Keane will be a perfect player to be understudy someone like Luiz and Cahill. A former Manchester United player, Keane is currently playing at Burnley, where he moved permanently in 2014. He will also add a home-grown player to Chelsea squad, something that is very valuable in today’s day and age.
