It is safe to say that the former Juventus boss, Antonio Conte, has really rejuvenated the North-London outfit Chelsea this time around. The Blues, who faced a torrid time last season, where they finished their campaign at a lowly 10th spot, have been really impressive this time around. The pre-season went pretty well for the side and then they managed to win their opening three Premier League fixtures, which only three clubs managed.
The Italian gaffer had a tough time in terms of transfers and he himself stated that it has been a rough time as the Blues aren’t in the Champions League, hence; convincing the player isn’t the easiest of tasks. The Blues were reported closing into sign the AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan, but eventually signed N’Golo Kante, which was a fair deal.
Further into the same, many players from Serie A were linked but nothing materialized. They also made a bid to AC Milan for their young prospect Alessio Romagnoli, but the Italian giants rejected their offer, but at the end of the transfer saga, the manager managed to bring two defensive personnel, namely, David Luiz and Marcos Alonso.
Well, they surely had a roller coaster ride this transfer season, as they loaned out 38 players, but quite surprisingly, no player from the senior squad left. So, here are three names, the manager should have sold this summer.
The 29-year-old Spanish international ended his eight years of tenure with Barcelona in 2015 and made his controversial move to Chelsea as according to him, Jose Mourinho, then Chelsea manager, convinced him to join the blues. Just like his other teammates, the 29-year-old failed to replicate his previous form and only managed eight goals in all competition.
The former Barcelona man, right at this very moment, will only be a second or a third choice player as the players like Hazard, Willian and even Oscar will be his first priority and the fact that there will be no Champions League football will only make his life miserable. He might get enough chances, but the Spanish international is a first team prospect and that Chelsea cannot guarantee him.
Just like Pedro, the 29-year-old Nigeria international made his move to Chelsea after denying the possibility of joining Manchester United. At that point in his career, the midfielder was considered as a great prospect and during his first year, he made 42 appearances, but he eventually lost his form completely and fell down into the pecking order.
In the year Chelsea lifted the Premier League title, the midfielder only managed 18 Premier League appearances and even in the previous season, he only played 23 Premier League games and that only because Guus Hiddink favoured him. And now with N’Golo Kante ready to assert his authority, it will be very difficult for Mikel to break into the first team action.
The 23-year-old Netherlands international has been travelling the Europe since his arrival at the Bridge from Vitesse back in 2013. At that point in his career, the midfielder was touted as one of the best prospects in the sport, but the loan spells, where his appearances were limited, cut the comedy for the Dutch.
After just making 4 appearances for the Blues, he was sent to Milan, then Stoke City and finally PSV, where he scored eight goals in just sixteen appearances. At the end of the 2015-16 season, there was a talk of a return to PSV on another loan, but the player denied the claim and stated that he will stay a put in London and practically speaking, does he have any future here? we really don’t think so.
