The blues will experience one of the toughest transfer windows this summer as with no European competitions, bringing new players in will be a tough job. Chelsea do need at least 4-5 new faces this summer in order to challenge for the top four next season. Next campaign is going to be one of the most interesting premium Leagues of all times with the arrival of Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho in the league, which makes it all the more difficult to sign world class players with such competition available.
Last season, Chelsea’s midfield was so badly found out by the opponents that it has now become the main priority to sign a world class player. Conte needs an enforcer who can do the dirty work and also takes the game forward and complement well with Cesc Fabregas. Whether it will be 3-5-2 or 4-3-3, the blues seem to be short in number with Mikel expected to be sold and Nemanja Matic set for a reunion with Jose Mourinho.
The player who has been a target since over a month now is AS Roma’s Radja Nainggolan. But, now Roma’s manager has come out and has made it clear that the Belgian is not for sale and will be with the Italian Giants next season. So, let’s take a look at the three alternatives to Radja Nainggolan that Chelsea must try to sign:
1. Paul Pogba:
The Frenchman has been an eternal target for the blues and now with Conte in charge, this deal can surely happen if the right amount is discussed with the Turin club. Pogba is the best midfielder of his generation and if Chelsea could get hold of him, the blues with Conte can become a real force to reckon with. He is the missing piece in the jigsaw of Stamford Bridge and can fire Chelsea back to the top.
2. Andre Gomes:
The 22 year old is one of the hottest properties in Europe and is reportedly a target for Chelsea. Gomes is a deep lying playmaker who thrives in crowded spaces and can work his way through it effectively. He has all the tools required to be one of the best at his position and with Valencia currently in turmoil, Chelsea can secure his services for not that high a price. But, a host of big clubs like Juventus and Manchester United are vying for him, so the blues need to act fast if they want to sign the talented Portuguese.
3. William Carvalho:
The 24 year old is a solid defensive midfielder who can be said as the future Portugal captain is just the type of player that Chelsea need next season. The blues lacked steel last season and that played into the opponents hands and Conte will make sure that won’t happen again. Carvalho has a bright future ahead of him and can flourish under the Italian at Stamford Bridge.
