Chelsea are looking for defensive reinforcement and for the few weeks Stephan Lichtsteiner had been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. However, recent reports from Goal has claimed that the Blues have received a blow in their pursuit of the defender as Massimiliano Allegri has turned down any transfer possibility for the player.
At the age of 32, Lichtsteiner is almost past the prime and Chelsea would have assumed that the Old Lady will have no problem to sell a (comparatively) old player. Pun intended! It looks like Allegri still thinks that the player is valuable to the squad and the club is also nearly about to complete a deal for Dani Alves.
Lichtsteiner has made over 150 appearances and has been part of the squad to win five Serie A titles in a row. The player is above 30 and would not receive a contract offer longer than a year and that also is working against the Blues.
