What’s The Future Of This 20-year Old Danish Star At Chelsea Next Season?

Chelsea’s new manager Antonio Conte has a very tough task ahead of him. It is safe to say that he might be the last manager to arrive in England as he is now currently working with his Italian national team. Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool; all have made their signings for the next season, but not Chelsea.

The London club have been linked with many top class players, but has still not reached an agreement with anyone so far. Well, to be honest, many players might refuse to come at the Bridge due to the absence of the Champions League football. Keeping that in mind, the Italian gaffer will have to run his ideas to convince the current players who are rumoured to leave the club to stay with the club.

Players like Diego Costa, Matic, Azpilicueta and even Willian have been linked with a move and these are the players who drive the team. Losing these players will be the biggest loss for the club. But besides all of it, we all are aware of the fact that Chelsea have deployed their young soldiers across the entire Europe. Those young guns will be travelling back to the Bridge and will be hoping to get a first team football.

One of those many canons is Andreas Christensen. The Danish international joined Chelsea back in 2012 after rejecting the offers from Arsenal, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich. His professional debut came after 2 years of joining, i.e, 2014 where he played the full 90 minutes as a right-back in a 2–1 away win against Shrewsbury Town.

Christensen made just 3 appearances for Chelsea in the 2014-15 season (1 in Premier League, 2 in League cups) and finally in the summer of 2015, he was sent on loan to the German side Borussia Monchengladbach on a two-year loan deal.

The 20-year-old Danish defender made 37 appearances for the German side last season, scoring 3 goals and gave a wonderful display of his defensive capabilities. Now, according to the reports from the Metro, Monchengladbach are looking to seal a permanent deal for the defender who is currently half way through a two-year loan deal, but Chelsea will not allow the player to complete the move.

We all are aware of the fact that Chelsea  does not  have a great record when it comes to promoting youth, and Christensen may know that as well. It has not happened until now, but the new manager would surely bring some fresh faces into the squad and that would surely stall the progress of Christensen.

Many reports are suggesting that Chelsea are looking to bring Leonardo Bonucci and Stephan Lichtsteiner, and even if a single transfer is completed, Christensen’s chances of making it to the first team will minimise by a big margin. Chelsea already have Cahill, Zouma, and Ivanovic and besides these; Terry is also in the contentions.

The 20-year-old flourished a lot in Germany and a change might hinder his progress. The biggest issue in the staying at Chelsea would be the opportunities.

The best option for the both the parties would be to allow the player to make a permanent move to Germany. He is getting a regular play time there and is doing wonders. Winning 60% of the average duels is not an easy task, but Christensen did that last season. Winning 2 man of the match awards and averaging 8 defensive actions per game is what he did last season. So, the best option for the blues is to allow Christensen to make a permanent switch to Borussia Monchengladbach.
