Food For Thought: Why Italy’s Run In The Euros Could Mean Trouble For Chelsea

The English club Chelsea have appointed the Italian gaffer Antonio Conte as their manager, but the 46-year-old will be joining the Stamford Bridge only after the current European Championship is concluded. Conte is currently managing Italy and his side is doing wonders, and looking at their recent results, it is safe to say that there is much more to come from the squad.

The entire fan following of the London club have surely had a huge sigh of relief as the Conte’s arrival was announced, but talking practically, Conte won’t be arriving at the Bridge anytime soon.  As stated, the Italian side is doing wonders and unless and until they are not eliminated from the competition, Conte’s arrival at the Bridge will be delayed.

Chelsea had one horrible season in the previous campaign and it was clearly visible that he almost every player lacked concentration. The priority task for the manager would be to assess the entire squad and then identify the positions in which they need upgrades. It is safe to say that the Chelsea job would be one of the toughest tasks for the Italian as we all are aware of the fact that anyone could fail in the Premier League.

Manchester United appointed the world renowned Dutch manager Louis van Gaal, who had a wonderful reputation and had tons of experience, but the gaffer failed badly, that he had to be sacked. Conte will be experiencing a whole new environment in London, where the pressure from the upper authorities, the fans and the media would be intense.

Manchester United have appointed Jose Mourinho and the Portuguese has started his work with the Old Trafford side, his counterpart, i.e, Arsene Wenger has already engaged in transfer activities, Klopp is doing his task brilliantly and even though Pep Guardiola has not arrived at the Etihad, he has made his first signing. But talking specifically about Chelsea, there have been no progress in the squad. It is clear that the squad needs an overhaul, but it needs to be done really quick.

Chelsea’s reported target Miralem Pjanic has joined Juventus , there is no update on Nainggolan and Morata will return to Madrid. But besides signings, it is reported that many players from the current squad are set to leave the club, and it is the job of the manager to handle these kinds of speculations and right at this very moment, Chelsea are a managerless club.

Managing a Premier League club is not an easy task. A lot of homework is required and looking at the current situation, Conte will be the last one to arrive compared to every manager in the EPL. As stated, an entire assessment is needed and this cannot be done in a day or two.

The manager indeed has a huge success with the Old Lady (Juventus), but this is not Italy or any other league where you will win the games for fun. The same amount of effort is needed in almost every single game, or you will be humiliated badly. Dealing with the transfer is one thing and completing the deal is other. Chelsea will not be playing in Europe and therefore, the task is tougher than anyone could imagine.

A sense of optimism is there for sure, but a delay might cost the side some way or the other.
