Food For Thought: Why Chelsea Should Sign This 19-year Youngster From Premier League Rivals

A new era is set to begin at Stamford Bridge as Antonio Conte is all set to take charge of the blues after his assignment with the Italian National team finishes after the Euros. His toughest task awaits him but the Italian is the perfect man to wake the blues up from their slumber as a disastrous season unfolded and caused the sacking of the club’s most successful manager.

His first job will be to instill the lost confidence in the players and Conte is known to be a great motivator and next comes the transfers. Chelsea need to spend big as with no European competition to offer, it will be tough to attract new players to add to the squad. Wingers and Fullbacks play a huge role in Conte’s tactics with the Italian favouring the 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 formations.

Eden Hazard and Willian are the only specialist wingers in the side and the club is looking to bolster the attack with a traditional winger to aid Conte in the buildup to the next season. One name that has come up in the papers is of the exciting 18 year old winger, Demarai Gray. Gray had grabbed attention in his time at Birmingham City and though he has not played much this after joining the Champions, Leicester, every big club is eyeing to sign the youngster.

Gray is a right footed left winger who can beat the defenders with his blistering pace. Gray has also represented England in all age groups. He comes from the same academy as Daniel Sturridge, Cadbury Athletic. Gray came into prominence when he scored a brilliant hattrick for Birmingham in just 34 minutes. A lot of clubs like Bournemouth and Crystal Palace tried to secure his service but it was eventually Claudio Ranieri who persuaded him to sign for Leicester.

Gray has immense potential and can become a world class talent if he keeps the same down to earth and hardworking personality. With a right price, the blues can sign this youngster who can complement well in Chelsea’s team as also he is comfortable in playing all across the line behind the striker and can play at fullback if required. Conte likes utility players and Gray can become a backup to Hazard and Willian for now. He is a future England star and though he has his fair share of weaknesses like not tracking back and lacking end product at times, he is still a 19 year old and can improve with age. Chelsea should not lose such an opportunity to bring Demarai to Stamford Bridge which can be a perfect learning curve for the 19 year old.
