Chelsea were interested in signing Gonzalo Higuain in January but the player declined a move as he was concerned about a regular starting spot as Diego Costa was in the team. Now with talks of Costa leaving in the summer, the Argentine was again linked with Chelsea.
However Football Insider (Cited by Daily Express) has claimed that the Blues have received a blow in their pursuit of Higuain as Manchester United has been reported lodging a huge £74 million bid for the player. That will match the striker’s release clause and could literally put Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal out of the race.
Chelsea may now have to look elsewhere as the Blues are not willing to spend that amount of money for the 28 year old player. United’s bid is not confirmed though and is subjective to Jose Mourinho arriving at Old Trafford. The Portuguese is believed to be interested in reuniting with Higuain if he arrives as Manchester United manager.
