Daily Express has news that the Blues may attempt to sign Thomas Vermaelen from Barcelona in the summer. With John Terry destined to leave Stamford Bridge and look for opportunities elsewhere, a major gap is expected in the defense and Vermaelen is considered to be one of the plugs for that opening.
The ex-Arsenal defender had made over 150 appearances for the club before moving to Barcelona with ambition. However like many other ex-Arsenal players before him, he spent most of his time on the bench due to injuries and fitness issue and has managed to make only seven appearances so far. He is desperate to move out Camp Nou and Chelsea could be a likely destination.
Barcelona are also interested in selling the player and are said to be willing to listen to offers for the 30-year-old Belgian as per Fichajes and Liverpool are also eyeing a move for the player.
