The crisis in the Chelsea attack is well documented in most print publications across Europe. I’ve referenced it a few times on this website. With all of Chelsea’s current strikers linked with a move away in the past week, Jose Mourinho will certainly be turning the planet inside and out for ideal replacements. He currently has Diego Costa high on his list with Mario Mandzukic and even Mario Balotelli featuring on it.
However, Chelsea may also have to deal with the departure of Eden Hazard who has been continuously linked with Paris Saint Germain for a few weeks now. With the idea that the Belgian might need a replacement, the Daily Mail have linked the Blues with a move for a current PSG winger, Ezequiel Lavezzi. But, I don’t think the Argentinian is the man that can replace Hazard or really solve their crisis in attack.
Lavezzi is talented, no question about it, he has an awful lot of pace and is very creative. However, he has been criticised by the fans as being quite lazy and inconsistent in his performances. When he’s on his game, he can terrorise any defence, but he has trouble finding his game. If he was to keep up the inconsistency in England, he’d be slaughtered by the media and we know what sort of effect that can have.
I personally think there are better options out there as well. Lavezzi isn’t the big name that we know Chelsea can afford. He might be easier to get, but when does Mourinho ever do easy. Why not go after Alexis Sanchez, Marco Reus or Angel Di Maria? Spend big to ensure you win a trophy next season. I just don’t think Lavezzi will be that player to provide them with that trophy. Definitely not to replace Hazard, should he leave.
