Top Five Wingers That Could Replace Eden Hazard

published :

The story surrounding Eden Hazard is as bizarre as anything I’ve seen since the Juan Mata story. The Belgian star will probably stay, but it’s the fact that he’s been heavily linked with a move away from the club with no one really denying that a move is on the cards. Some theories include the fact that Jose Mourinho and Hazard had a bit of an argument towards the tail-end of the season with the former criticising the latter’s dedication to the team.

Why Mourinho would ever consider selling Hazard is beyond me. He may not fit his style, but he’s an incredibly gifted player and he was the main reason why Chelsea finished as high as they did. His creativity and variation in his play has been admired by many in the footballing world; especially Paris Saint Germain. The French giants have been linked with another move for Hazard, as the Express have reported. However, it’s more of a reinforcement that PSG are heavily interested in the Belgian. So now on to the list:

1. Marco Reus -The Borussia Dortmund star has enjoyed yet another fantastic campaign in the Bundesliga. Re-affirming that he’s one of the most best forwards in Europe. 23 goals and as many assists is an incredible tally for the 24-year-old. However, Jose Mourinho will do very well to get hold of the Dortmund player as Klopp has already lost Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich and he won’t want to sell the last of the infamous trio just yet.

2. Angel Di Maria – I feel sorry for the Argentinian at Real Madrid. He’s a fantastic player, but is overshadowed by Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo; which is fair enough. If he was to be the focal point of an attack, like Hazard is, then he could develop into one of the best players in Europe. He certainly proved in the Champions League final how devastating a player he can be.

3. Thomas Muller – I’ve always liked the Bayern Munich man and I’d love him at Chelsea. But, I haven’t included him just because I like him, I included him because he’s a brilliant player. 27 goals and 15 assists is some record. What he lacks in pace and tricks, he more than makes up for in energy, good feet and positional awareness. He’s also extremely versatile as he can play anywhere across the midfield and even as a striker.

4. Julian Draxler – Draxler, like Muller, isn’t exactly the quickest winger you’ll ever see, however, he can produce the same results as any of them. His creativity knows no bounds and the kind of tricks he pulls off wouldn’t look out of place in a football freestyle ring. Any compilation you find of him, you’ll realise how skilful he is.

5. Alexis Sanchez – The Chilean has been a revelation this season. He faced a lot of criticism when he first arrived for inconsistent performances and not living up to his price tag. This season, he’s been one of the best players. Eclipsing Neymar, Pedro and Andres Iniesta. However, the player himself has been in a few arguments with the Barcelona hierarchy and that has led to the suggestion that he could be sold. The Blues should snap him up in a heart beat.

I think Mourinho has lost it over the last couple of years. Maybe he's going through his 'Mano-pause' but stories of his poor man management have been features of both his last year in Madrid and his first year back in Chelsea. Chelsea have a major rebuilding job to this summer and I wonder whether Mourinho really is the man for the job.
