Chelsea Should Let Go Of Brazilian Star

published :

Defenders aren’t used to being subject to the kinds of bids that midfielders and strikers receive; which is a blatant suggestion that the latter two positions are the most important in the team. However, things seem to be heading that way as the amount of money thrown around by today’s papers are getting more and more ridiculous.

David Luiz has been a name that is constantly in the tabloid’s for one reason or another. Usually it’s to do with a transfer away from Stamford Bridge which is what the Daily Mail have picked up upon. They’ve suggested that Luiz could be on his to France to sign for Paris Saint Germain within 48 hours. The deal is thought to be worth around an extraordinary £50 million. This would make him the most expensive defender of all time.

Despite the talent that Luiz has, there are a couple of reasons why I think Chelsea should let him go to Paris.

The good thing about the Brazilian is that he is versatile, brave and actually a very gifted defender. He has plenty of strengths which make him one of the best on the planet. However, he’s not worth £50 million; no way. If the Blues were to receive that amount of money from the French giants then they simply have to accept it as it can instantly go towards a top quality replacement and another quality player should Mourinho choose to spend his transfer kitty.

The next reason is that the John Terry-Gary Cahill centre back partnership was very strong this season as they strived to remain disciplined and 100% focused on the job. Luiz is erratic, ill-disciplined and inconsistent. One minute he’ll produce a performance worthy of any Brazil legend, but the week after he’ll do something ridiculously terrible that’ll make you wonder how he became a professional.

He is a good player when he’s switched on, however, he often switches off and that forces mistakes from him. For £50 million, it’s an offer the Blues can’t refuse.
