An absolutely astonishing scoring record for a midfielder, Lampard has a ratio of slightly better than one in three for Chelsea in the Premier League and almost a goal every other game for the club overall.
Despite possessing a wealth of attacking options, the Blues do not currently have a midfielder who could step into Lampard’s place and give the side what he has given for over 11 years. And, at times when Fernando Torres is misfiring, do Chelsea really have someone they can always count on for a goal?
Approaching a century of appearances for England, for whom he has scored 26 goals, Lampard may seek a new challenge after seeing out this campaign under Benitez. Whether he follows the example of David Beckham by joining the MLS or decides to prove himself in another top European league is yet to be seen.
What is certain is that Frank Lampard will always be known for scoring goals, with that reputation meaning he could earn a move almost anywhere.
