Yes they are defending Champions’ League winners and yes they have had a fantastic start to the new Premier League season, but there are still concerned whispers muttering around Stamford Bridge regarding the strength of the squad.
With Fernando Torres the only out and out striker, Roberto Di Matteo is surely keeping his fingers crossed that the Spaniard doesn’t get injured. They do have Daniel Sturridge in their ranks, but there is no hiding the fact he’s primarily a winger, regardless of his ability to find the net.
It’s been a steady start for the Blues though, and all you can do is keep winning games. They will hope that defeat to their Spanish counterparts Madrid was a minor blip, and will look to get back down to business after the international break.
In Edin Hazard they possess a player who can change any game in an instant, something they have perhaps lacked in recent seasons. Couple that with the fact that Torres is now beginning to find form again and Oscar is gradually finding his feet, and you could be forgiven for getting excited for the campaign ahead at the Bridge.
So far so good for Chelsea as they sit at the top of the Premiership, and if they can put the Athletico game to one side, who knows where they may end up come next May.
Don’t start those negative bandwagon engines just yet.
