Oscar seems set to be on his way to the Bridge in a £25m deal, whilst it seems that an out-and-out winger is also in the reckoning.
First we had Hulk’s name mentioned, some sources had suggested we had agreed a £38m fee for him, but although that is the figure Porto have quoted, it seems Chelsea are reluctant to offer such a deal, especially for a man, despite his great potential, has only a handful of international appearances, and is untested in the competitive Premier League.
Despite the high price, he comes with many plus sides, his big stature and ability to play as a striker makes him a great candidate, especially since Didier Drogba has left, and nobody is sure what kind of season Fernando Torres is in for, although we all hope it’s a great one.
Since then, there has been multiple players linked with a move to London, although most were brushed under the carpet, that until Wigan’s Victor Moses expressed his desire to leave for a larger club, and Chelsea came in with an offer, albeit a small one.
Wigan are apparently holding out for £11m or so, although many believe a deal can be made meaning Josh McEachran spends a year on loan at the relegation candidates, as he would be a player they would be very interested in.
Moses of course, has Premier League experience, and at a fraction of the cost of the Brazilian Hulk, has become a popular choice amongst the Chelsea faithful.
What has come to be a negative though, is Roman Abramovich’s cheque book. Ever since the press got hold of story of him throwing around £250m at Di Matteo to spend this summer, clubs are bumping up their prices, especially after seeing them throw £32m at LOSC Lille for their Belgian wonder, Eden Hazard.
The last of three wingers that Chelsea seem very keen on, is Shahktar prodigy Willian. Another young Brazilian, with bags full of potential. The Shahktar manager however, came out into the press yesterday, to reveal they had rejected a £26m bid for him from Chelsea, this for a player that is rumoured to be available for around £21m tops.
Their Romanian coach said, “They paid a lot of money for Hazard, but are not willing to pay for Willian, even though he’s better in my opinion”
The way he words that, would say to me that they are holding out for more than £32m for the 23 year-old, which may be just a step too far.
What is for sure, is that Chelsea’s summer spending is almost certainly not complete, and we may well see one of these three lining up in Chelsea blue come this August.
Which one would you prefer? Are they worth the money, or is there someone that Di Matteo might well have over-looked?
