Cavani – The man to solve Chelsea’s striking problems?

The 24-year-old Cavani is currently one of the most sought after players in world football and would fit in perfectly at Stamford Bridge.

Since moving to Napoli from Palermo, the Uruguayan international has been incredible. Last January he scored a hat-trick as his team beat Juventus and he also got trebles against Lazio and Sampdoria – He finished the season with 25 goals, a new club record for goals in a season.

He has continued show his class this season, in September he scored against Manchester City in the Champions League opener and four days later he scored another hat-trick when his team beat Milan 3-1.

His consistency and form has grabbed the attention of all the big European club, and Chelsea are thought to be desperate to sign the powerful forward.

To get the goal machine’s signature it will cost a minimum of €35 million, a fee that would be a bargain if continued with score in England as regularly as he does in Italy.

Chelsea have said goodbye to Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba is off to the African Cup of Nations and could still leave this month if not at the end of the season, plus Fernando Torres is still struggling for form, meaning Andre Villas-Boas needs to invest in new fire-power.

  1. I think most fans would consider Cavani to be the best replacement for Drogba right now. But its unlikely that Napoli would let him go at this stage. Only if Abramovich paid a silly amount could it become reality. And playing well for Napoli does not mean he will get it right at Chelsea. Perhaps someone like Neymar, who has proven good over a few years, would be better a safer choice for certain goals. Either way Chelsea must aim for players in their early twenties, not late twenties.
