Slipping down the rich list …

The most recent Forbes Rich List and The Times newspaper’s list of the top ten richest Premier League club owners saw the Blues slip to third.

Roman Abramovich’s has spent a lot of money over the years including the whopping £50m paid for Fernando Torres last January but the club’s owner is reportedly worth approximately £13.4bn and means the club is ranked three.

The name at top of the list is Tony Fernandes, who recently took over our West London rivals Queens Park Rangers who is thought to be worth an impressive £32bn. Since changing charge the South African has already provided Neil Warnock with funds to spend, and the charismatic Yorkshireman is like to get more in January.

There is no surprise at number two, with Manchester City’s Sheikh Mansour  being classed as having a worth of £22.8bn. With City flying high and Roberto Mancini more than happy to keep spending maybe the Sheikh’s wealth could be hit in January, especially if he makes a move for Robin Van Persie and other stars to complete his jigsaw.

The two North London clubs are fourth and fifth with Arsenal’s net worth being £12.42bn and Tottenham’s is estimated at £12.42bn.

As the list goes on Liverpool are ranked sixth with £2.2bn and then the red side of Manchester seventh with £1.5bn. Both clubs have spoke heavily during the summer, with the former trying to rebuild after failing to get into the Champions League in the last two seasons.

Rather surprisingly Sunderland are eighth with £1.3bn and their bitter rivals Newcastle are tenth with a net worth of £1.25bn – our local neighbours Fulham are sandwiched between the two clubs with approximately £1.25bn.

With the positive news that the Blues still have a very rich owner will hopefully mean that January will see some new players join the club – after all this is the last window before the new ‘financial fair play’ rules come into play.
