Sparky has admitted that he would want the opportunity to manage the club where he scored 25 league goals in 95 starts. He scored a further 14 goals that helped the Blues win the FA Cup, Cup Winners’ Cup and League Cup.
The 46-year-old started his management career with Wales, before impressing at Blackburn, and then getting the chance to manage cash-rich Manchester City. the City role did not work out, and he was relieved of his duties after failing to impress, that was despite leading the team to the semi-final of the League Cup. The next move was to our neighbours Fulham, where he once again showed what a good boss he is.
Hughes moved on from Craven Cottage after one season, he turned down a contract extension, and whilst he was an outsider to get the top job at Stamford Bridge, he still wants to return to be boss one day
Hughes told Chelsea TV: “Chelsea is the club I have a very special affinity for. Obviously I had a fantastic time there as a player.
“As a manager you want to test yourself at the very top, so if in the future if it’s ever possible for me to work here then I would be absolutely delighted to because it’s an outstanding club.”
Hughes shocked everyone by leaving after one season and said: “I had my reasons for leaving my last post and I just hope that I get an opportunity to get a job in which I can show a bit of longevity because that’s what I’m looking for.”
Many feel that Hughes’ preference would be to manage United but as a player he wore the club’s shirt with pride and would be likely to show the same passion if he was the boss.
