Chelsea show interest in Everton duo as January transfer window draws to a close

Chelsea are interested in Everton duo Anthony Gordon and Amadou Onana

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are interested in signing Everton duo Anthony Gordon and Amadou Onana during the January window.

The Blues have these two on the radar along with Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Malo Gusto. Todd Boehly and co. are in no mood to stop the signing of players despite spending £460m on incomings since the start of the summer window till date.

Gordon was Chelsea’s summer target too. Everton rejected the first bid of £45m, prompting the west London side to come up with a £60m offer. But, the Toffees kept hold of him despite his interest to play for the Blues.

Onana, on the other hand, was a summer signing for the Merseyside club and has been one of their best players even though the bar is very low.

The Belgium international did well in the World Cup too, although the bar was not very high there as well. He is a dynamic midfield player who can operate as a box-to-box player with a great work rate and good quality on the ball.

Meanwhile, Gordon, who had an excellent latter half of last season, has not done well this season. He is a winger with an eye for goal but has got only three in 16 league appearances.

Moreover, Chelsea have just signed Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke to bolster their wide attacking areas. It makes no sense to fork money to buy the Everton man now.

Onana can be included among the midfield options the Blues can consider signing now or in the summer. We all know the club is trying to get Caicedo and Fernandez in. But, if one of them does not come, the Belgian can be roped in as a backup option.
