Ethan Ampadu has extended his stay at Chelsea after signing a five-year deal with the club. A release from the Blues quoted the 18-year-old as saying:
“I’m really proud and happy. I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen.” (Chelsea Website)
The Welshman is one of the brightest players we have in our side. He recently played for the national side during the international break and performed very well, especially against the Republic of Ireland.
The 18-year-old joined us from Exeter in 2017 and played seven times for the senior team last season. Ampadu can play either as a defensive midfielder or as a centre-back. His progress was noted by Marina Granovskaia, who said:
“Ethan has shown great potential and unbelievable maturity since arriving at Chelsea a year ago. In this short time he convinced a lot of people with his exceptional quality and mentality and we look forward to watching him develop into a key player for the club over the coming years.”
The next step for the youngster is to impress Maurizio Sarri and become a regular in the first-team. Chelsea’s presence in the Europa League could provide ample opportunities for the 18-year-old to feature regularly.
Ampadu might receive a few Premier League appearances too, as we look forward to the next big thing at Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old has a lot of competition in the midfield but he seems ready to take up the challenge.
