“It was a disaster last year” – Chelsea star claims he did consider exiting the club

Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata has termed his first season at Chelsea a “disaster” and claimed he was not happy at the club.

The Spanish striker joined the Blues from Real Madrid last season but struggled to score in the second half of the campaign.

Morata could not make it to the Spanish squad for the World Cup and even saw his place being taken by Olivier Giroud, who we signed from Arsenal.

The 25-year-old was speaking to the Spanish press (h/t Sky Sports) and even claimed he was thinking about moving away.

“I thought about playing again in Spain or Italy. Of course I thought it would have been happy, but you cannot always escape from reality.

“It was a disaster last year, I did not know where I was, I was not happy.

“I signed for Chelsea to be there (World Cup in Russia) and I was not, although that ultimately made me motivated.”

Alvaro Morata and Pedro

The striker wasn’t upset at former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui for snubbing him and wished him the best for his new role at Real Madrid.

Morata has scored one goal for us this season and has been recalled by La Roja for the games against England and Croatia.

The 25-year-old has been preferred over Giroud in the starting XI and all Morata needs is a confidence boost. The Spaniard had a decent record while playing for Juventus and it will be challenging for Maurizio Sarri to extract the best out of him.
