“Inter Milan were after me” – £23million Chelsea star looking to exit in January in search of regular game time

Davide Zappacosta could look for a move away from Chelsea in the winter window should he not receive adequate playing time with the Blues.

The Italian defender was quoted by Evening Standard claiming that Inter Milan were interested in him and he could return to Italy.

“Could I return to Italy? Yes, Inter Milan had been after me.”

The right-back has been an unused substitute in each of our three Premier League games and added that he is focused on Chelsea.

The Italian spoke about his contract at the Blues and added there is a lot of competition for places in the team.

“Could I return in January? I have three more years on my contract here and I only want to think about doing well with Chelsea.

“There’s a lot of competition here, but I want to win a place in the XI. After that, it’s clear that if I didn’t find much room, I don’t think any player would like that.”

It will be tough for the Italian to usurp Cesar Azpilicueta as our No.1 right-back this season. The Spaniard also captained the Blues in the 2-1 win over Newcastle United and has been a consistent player for us.

Zappacosta joined us from Torino for a fee of £23million (h/t Evening Standard) and made just 12 starts for us last season.

The Italian could find game time in the Europa League should Maurizio Sarri decide to rest Azpilicueta. And it will be interesting to see how the manager keeps the non-starters happy in the coming months.
