Mateo Kovacic had an impressive debut as he helped Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-2 in a pulsating game. The Croatian played 30 minutes and had a 100% pass completion rate (h/t Daily Star).
The Real Madrid star is on loan at the club this season but the 24-year-old was quoted by the Daily Star as saying that he was feeling “good” at the club.
“It was important that after three years of inconsistency in playing time in Madrid I’ve got into a team that wants me and a coach that wants and trust me. That’s how Chelsea happened.
“That’s what I really need now, as I said earlier I’m feeling really good and I want to keep it that way.”
The Croatian also spoke highly of our new manager and added that the current Chelsea side is “phenomenal”.
Kovacic also noticed the change in playing style when compared to La Liga and was quoted by SportKlub (h/t Daily Star) as saying:
“Well, the tempo is higher, there is more space, but as I said it’s not hard to adapt when you are surrounded by great players.”
The 24-year-old further thanked the fans for their support and vowed to perform well this season. The loan for Kovacic could turn out to be a smart deal with the player looking to impress under Maurizio Sarri this season.

Kovacic didn’t get a lot of regular playing time at Madrid but that can change at Chelsea. His first performance was a decent enough showing and we would benefit big time if he keeps up his good form.
