Sky Sports pundit speaks about Chelsea star’s links with Barcelona, says player wanted the move

Willian

According to a report by Daily Express, Chelsea have rejected three bids from Barcelona for Willian. The pacy attacker, who was mostly utilised as a fringe player last season, is one of the most fearsome attackers in the Premier League. And now, it looks like he might stay back with the Blues for the upcoming campaign.

However, as quoted by Daily Express, Sky Sports pundit Nick Wright has claimed that staying back at Chelsea would be extremely frustrating for the Brazilian.

Speaking during the Transfer Talk podcast (h/t Daily Express), Wright said:

“He clearly wants the Barcelona move. Those bids being knocked back must have been frustrating for him but Chelsea are entitled to ask for a lot of money for him.”

He also went on to add that Willian is an excellent player and heaped praises on the 29-year-old. He also added that Willian often gets overshadowed by Eden Hazard at Chelsea.

On a certain level, that could be true. Hazard continues to be our most prolific player. Also, considering Willian’s age and experience, he should be playing regularly until he hangs up his boots.

Doing so at Chelsea would, however, be a tad difficult. Nevertheless, with Maurizio Sarri at the helm, we do seem destined for greater things next season. If Wright’s words are anything to go by, the situation does seem frustrating for Willian.

That said, his talent and skills are undeniable and if does stay back with us, it would be a major boost for the club in general.
