Chelsea already willing to sell £18m World Cup star amidst La Liga interest – report

Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud is a target for Atletico Madrid ahead of the season as the Spanish club want the World Cup winner on loan, according to Sky Sports (h/t Daily Star).

The French striker had only joined Chelsea in the winter window from Arsenal for a fee of £18m and while Atletico want him on loan, the Blues are looking to sell the 31-year-old.

The former Arsenal man did have a decent time at Chelsea as he scored 3 goals and won the FA Cup with the Blues. However, that was the plan under Antonio Conte and new man Maurizio Sarri is looking to stamp his own authority at the club.

Giroud could become the second Chelsea striker to end up at Atletico in the just about a year as we also sold Diego Costa to the La Liga giants.

While Costa’s negotiations dragged on for a while, we should not be looking to make the same mistake with the 31-year-old Giroud.

Giroud might not be the quickest player in the Premier League or even the youngest but selling him after just six months seems to be a bad idea.

Sure, he will not start too many games under Sarri once the boss does bring in another striker but Giroud does provide something else in our attack and can change games off the bench.

He did a good job once he joined from Arsenal and with him having won the World Cup and starting a number of France’s games in Russia, it would not be a surprise if we sell him this summer.
