Blow for Chelsea as Premier League star will not join Chelsea ahead of new season – report

Kasper Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel will not be moving away despite Danny Ward reportedly close to joining Leicester City, according to Football.london (h/t Daily Star).

The report claims that the Liverpool goalkeeper, Ward, is actually being signed up as competition for the 31-year-old and not as a replacement for the former Manchester City man.

The Daily Star claims that Schmeichel was seen as a player that Chelsea would sign to replace Thibaut Courtois but that deal seems to be out of the window with the latest development.

Schmeichel has been one of the top Premier League goalkeepers in recent years and was in great form at the World Cup too, with Denmark.

The 31-year-old did win the Premier League with the Foxes three years ago and there had been a lot of rumours of him leaving Leicester for another club in the summer window.

Thibaut Courtois

While Schmeichel is a quality keeper, it is a bit of a relief if we do not sign him as we need someone of the stature of Courtois to challenge for top honours.

Courtois has been one of the best keepers for a number of years and it will be tough to find someone who can do a similar job. We should look to keep hold of him at all costs and with Alisson turning up at Liverpool, it is even more important for us not to lose the star keeper to any other side.

It will be tough trying to keep players as we do not have the Champions League to play for next season but bringing in the right players ahead of the season will be an important measure to ensure no one leaves unless we want them to.
