Chelsea slap £70m price-tag on World Cup winger amidst Barcelona interest

Chelsea are unwilling to let Willian leave for cheap and the Sun (h/t Express) reports that we are looking for at least £70m for the 29-year-old Brazilian. Barcelona did have a bid rejected for Willian which was around the £50m mark.

The 29-year-old’s hopes of lifting the World Cup came to an end as Brazil were defeated 2-1 by Belgium but Willian has been one of our most consistent performers in recent years.

Manchester United are also interested in the winger but it remains to be seen if our Premier League rivals are willing to shell out a colossal fee to land him.

To be fair, £70m seems like a fair price for a player that still has a lot to give and is capable of fitting into any team in the world, especially the top sides in Europe.

The 29-year-old scored 13 times for us last season and even chipped in with eight assists. We won the FA Cup last season but next term, we must aim for more. And to that end, we could utilize Willian and his usual counter-attacking style.

It would be fantastic if we keep asking a high price in an attempt to ensure that Willian somehow stays at the club and begins a new era at Stamford Bridge.

However, if the Brazilian does want to leave, we should eke out as much as we can and sell him only to a club outside of England.
