Big-money Chelsea star contacts La Liga club’s president regarding a move – report

Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata wants a move away from Chelsea and had even contacted Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in hopes of a return to his former side.

A report from Don Balon (h/t The Daily Star) claims that the Spanish striker had spoken to Perez to discuss a transfer due to Zinedine Zidane’s resignation from the management post at the La Liga club.

However, the president has shut down any hopes of signing a new striker until a replacement for Zidane comes in at Madrid. Perez also told Morata that they already have a striker in Karim Benzema, which would come as a bit of a blow to the 25-year-old.

Morata had only joined us at the start of the season and after a bit of a bright start, he ended up scoring just 3 goals in all competitions since Boxing day.

The 25-year-old scored 15 goals for us in all competitions but had scored 20 in his final season at Madrid before moving to London. His lack of goals for Chelsea has cost him a place in the Spanish squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Antonio Conte brought in Olivier Giroud from Arsenal and the Frenchman scored 5 goals in all competitions after joining in the winter window.

Morata’s best seasons might have come when he was playing for Juve and we should give him another season before deciding what to do with him. Should we get crazy money for his transfer, it might make sense for us to sell him.

However, working under a new manager might work out for Morata, so maybe sticking with us for another season would be good for him and the club.
