Chelsea identify former Liverpool flop as Thibaut Courtois replacement – reports

According to ESPN, Premier League champions Chelsea have identified RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi as the candidate to replace their star stopper Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian has yet to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge amidst interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, the ESPN claim.

The shot-stopper spent three years in the Spanish capital, while on loan at Atletico Madrid and as per the Daily Star, Courtois has revealed a number of times that he still watches Spanish television at home.

Courtois, who has developed into one of the best goalkeepers across Europe, is also being tracked by French giants PSG, as reported by the Daily Star and the report also claims that Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are destined to lose their No.1 despite offering the Belgian keeper a lucrative contract.

But as per ESPN’s report, the Blues have already started looking at Courtois’ replacements and have identified Leipzig’s Gulacsi. The Hungarian, who according to ESPN has also attracted Atletico Madrid’s interest, guided Leipzig to a second place finish in the Bundesliga last term.

Gulacsi, who topped the rankings for goalkeepers in the Bundesliga earlier this season, helped Leipzig to a win over league leaders Bayern Munich last weekend. The shot-stopper has maintained his good form this season.

The 27-year-old spent five years at Liverpool but failed to break into the first-team. I assume Gulacsi’s name on Chelsea’s radar would shock our fans but his impressive displays for Leipzig this season might certainly change the outlook of things.
