Chelsea’s Serie A target closes the door on London move, says money is not a big deal for him

Radja Nainggolan

Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has admitted that he could one day end up joining us, though he is not currently interested in a move. When Antonio Conte joined us two seasons ago, we were heavily linked with a move for Nainggolan but in the end, a move failed to materialise.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as we look to bring in more players from the Serie A.

However, with Napoli looking set to win the Serie A this season, Nainggolan may prefer to remain at the club, especially because he has been a first-team regular for the club, having gone on to make 28 appearances in all competitions so far this term, scoring 2 goals.

Despite leaving the possibility of an England move open for the future, Nainggolan has said that a move will have to wait for now.

“If you think about money, I would have changed team two or three times and I would earn more,” he told Sportmagazine.be (h/t Daily Star).

“But I want to live where one is well, for me and my family, there’s nothing missing, we live in the best way, there are good restaurants and you can go shopping. In my future I see myself in Rome, I think that I will stay here.

“I could go to Chelsea or to other teams now, but changing lifestyle and the culture is not for me.”

At this stage, it will be a huge risk to sign Nainggolan. Despite the player being in fine form this season, he is not going to get better, which is why we should ideally not be aiming to sign players like him.

Especially considering our current situation, we should be aiming to sign young and developing world-class talents in the summer as we look to build for the future.
