Full-Back Problems And More: Key Areas Where Chelsea Needs An Upgrade

There were a lot of talking points after Antonio Conte’s press conference and the major point that grabbed everyone’s attention was the decision about Terry. Many reports from around Europe believed that even if Terry has signed a new contract, he will be playing his majority time behind the stage, but the manager has now stated that Terry is a part of his plans and the 35-year-old will remain the captain of the Blues.

“John Terry signed a contract as a player, not a different role,” said the new head coach. “He is the captain of this team. He is a great player, with a great personality, charisma. I like to speak to him, because I know he knows the club, the right spirit to play in this club. For me he is a very important player.”

The upcoming season in the Premier League is surely going to be a battlefield and in this battleground, the Blues will have to fight like a gladiator to achieve the success. Conte has cleared one thing that the lack of Champions League football won’t distract the players, and the team will be going all out to challenge for the title.

With all that being said, there still lies a need of improvement. Chelsea had a torrid time last season and what the manager will be looking is to bring back the confidence in the players that was lacking heavily. With such a motivating conference, we are sure that almost every single fan is looking forward to see how their team performs.

But as I said earlier, there is still a need for improvement. So, where exactly Chelsea needs the reinforcement?

So far, Antonio Conte has concluded just a single deal and that was really an important one. Michy Batshuayi has arrived at the Bridge after spending some quality time with Marseille, but besides him Conte hasn’t materialized any. Many players from Serie A have been linked with a move, but so far nothing has been concluded.

Talking about the priorities, then what Chelsea need is a fullback, especially a quick and young left back, someone like Ricardo Rodriguez.  Appreciation to Azpilicueta that he could operate both the flanks, but his true quality only comes as a right back, and to be very honest, Baba Rahman cannot be trusted in the big games.

After acquiring a left back, what Chelsea need is a dynamic defensive midfielder. According to many reports, the blues are currently chasing AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan, and that deal would be a tailor-made transfer for the club. Yes, Chelsea do have Nemanja Matic, but besides him no other concrete option is available, not even Mikel.

If a player like Nainggolan is signed then, then Fabregas will have a much needed room to deliver some excelling passes and that would work the trick for the manager. Soon after this, a central cum attacking midfielder is a necessity, for example; Paul Pogba. The transfer for the highly rated Frenchman looks unlikely and therefore, a dynamic, yet a young player needs to be found. Loftus Cheek could work for the team, but he youngster lacks experience. Besides the Englishman, Pedro is also an option, but considering his horror show last season, his position looks unlikely.

To be perfectly honest, Chelsea actually needs a complete rejuvenation, but these are the primary areas, where we think Conte should work.
